Two sisters entered a home where their mother says they never felt secure. Behind its doors was a dangerous collection, but the full weight of her warning would not become clear until three lives were lost.
The victims were 16-year-old Jaelyn Manke, her 11-year-old sister, Lenora Manke, and their father, 57-year-old Jeffrey Manke. Their deaths have left a small Wisconsin community mourning while the girls’ mother, Lindsey Dash, asks why their reported pleas for help did not lead to greater protection.

A Welfare Check Ended With Three Deaths
Officers were sent to a residence in the 500 block of Division Street in Winneconne on Friday night, July 31, 2026. The call was described as both a medical incident and a welfare check.
Inside the property, police found three people dead. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Winneconne Police Department, and Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified them as Jaelyn, Lenora, and Jeffrey.
The sheriff’s office is leading the investigation, according to NBC 26. Authorities have not publicly disclosed how any of the three died or explained the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Investigators have said the incident appears to have been confined to the home and that there is no danger to the wider public. The case remains active, and officials have asked anyone with relevant information to call the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office at 920-236-7300.
Winneconne Police Chief Ben Sauriol offered his condolences to everyone affected. He also called an event of this nature “exceedingly rare” in the village.
“Winneconne is small town America, and we all pretty much know everybody here,” Sauriol said. “And when something like this happens in a quiet community, it sends ripples and it’s shocked everybody at this point.”
Those ripples quickly reached the schools, studios, and organizations where the sisters had spent their time. As friends began sharing memories of the girls, their mother disclosed the fear she said had existed long before officers arrived at the house.

Their Mother Says the Girls Asked for Help
On August 3, Lindsey thanked the people who had surrounded her with care. Her gratitude sat alongside the crushing reality that the daily purpose around which she had built her life was suddenly gone.
In an emotional Facebook post, she described organizing her finances so she could remain at home with Jaelyn and Lenora and give them the best childhood she could provide.

Lindsey wrote, “I feel everyone’s love around me and I appreciate that. I need all the love I can get because I don’t know how to do this without them.” She then made the allegation at the heart of her grief:
“Everyone they talked to knew they were not safe in his care. And I fought so hard to try to keep them safe.
Lindsey said she had fought to protect her daughters and claimed a family counselor stopped working with them despite knowing the girls did not want to be in their father’s home. She also said reports were submitted to Child Protective Services and police had been called.

“I was legally forced to send them when they felt unsafe,” she wrote. “Nobody wanted to listen.” Her strongest accusation was directed at the broader process she believed had let the sisters down.
“If someone listened to their cries for help for the last 2 years , they would still be here . The system failed my babies.”
No agency named in Lindsey’s post has publicly responded to her individual claims. Police have also not announced whether the deaths are being investigated as homicides, a murder-suicide, or under another classification.

That distinction matters. This distressed mother’s account reveals what she says happened before July 31, but the official investigation has not yet established publicly what occurred inside the home.
Court records, however, add another troubling reveal to the questions she raised.
Court Filings Pointed to Firearms and Health Concerns
Jeffrey’s divorce from another partner was finalized earlier on July 31, the same day that he and his daughters were found dead. Four days before his death, a witness had been requested to appear in the divorce proceedings to address his health and firearm collection.
Records obtained by NBC 26 also showed that a restraining order had been filed against him earlier in 2026. The filing noted that he had access to guns.
A divorce settlement described a collection of 14 firearms, with weapons ranging from an AK-47 to a Glock 21. Authorities have not said whether any of those firearms were connected to the deaths.
The presence of guns in court records does not establish what happened in the house. It does, however, give added context to Lindsey’s statement that Jaelyn and Lenora had expressed fear while the legal proceedings involving their parents continued.
As those details drew attention, anger began to spread toward people involved in the family court process. Lindsey returned to social media one day later with a direct request about how the public should respond.

She Asked Supporters to Stop the Threats
On August 4, Lindsey said the response to her first post had brought an enormous amount of support. She was grateful, but she also saw misinformation, personal hatred, and threats being aimed at individuals linked to the case.
In a second public statement, she urged people to stop and said the individuals receiving that hostility were required to operate under laws they did not have the power to rewrite. Her focus shifted from blaming particular workers to calling for a transformation of the system.
“It is the laws that need to change to better protect our children and give them a voice.”

She specifically said threats and inaccurate claims involving the guardian ad litem and other participants were pulling attention away from Jaelyn and Lenora. Lindsey wanted her daughters remembered for the qualities she had worked to instill in them: faith, kindness, and love.
A candlelight vigil is being planned to bring the community together and raise awareness. For their mother, the gathering is meant to center the sisters rather than the fury gathering around their deaths.
The girls’ activities offer a fuller picture of the lives behind the court filings and police statements. Both sisters had earned admiration in spaces where they danced, trained, volunteered, and encouraged younger students.
Their Dance School Remembered Two Role Models
On August 1, Richard’s School of the Dance announced that it had lost two of its dancers. The studio remembered Jaelyn and Lenora as caring students who helped their peers, shared encouragement, and arrived with smiles.
In its tribute, the school wrote, “Jaelyn and Lenora had the most beautiful and kind hearts.”
The sisters were especially important to the younger dancers who looked up to them. The studio asked its community to surround their family with prayer and love while respecting the request for privacy.

“They will forever be dancing in our hearts and remembered for the beautiful souls that they were,” the school wrote.
Dance was only one place where the sisters made an impression. Their martial arts academy remembered two energetic students whose futures had seemed wide open only weeks earlier.
One Sister Had Just Earned Her License
American Black Belt Academy said Jaelyn and Lenora had most recently tested for their fifth gups in May. Their deaths on July 31 were described by the academy as a cruel event that its members could not understand.
Its August 4 memorial included personal details that showed each girl’s character. According to them, Jaelyn had recently received her driver’s license. She enjoyed volunteering at the academy and was known for her high kicks.

Lenora brought enthusiasm to every training session. The academy said, “We never saw her without a smile.”
Meanwhile, a friend of their mother offered another view of the family’s private struggle. Her words echoed Lindsey’s belief that the danger had not gone unnoticed.
A Friend Said Their Mother Tried Everything
Katie Stegeman said on August 3 that she had known Lindsey for more than 10 years. She remembered a mother who adored her daughters and devoted herself to giving them everything she could.
In a Facebook message, Katie alleged that Lindsey had left an abusive relationship to keep the girls safe and had contacted everyone she believed could help protect them. “We have to change the system,” Katie wrote. “This should never have happened.”

Her post finished by directing readers toward a fundraiser and meal train for Lindsey. That effort became one of the most immediate ways for the community to help a mother facing funeral costs while stepping away from her livelihood.
The Community Is Helping Her Grieve
The memorial fund created by Ericka Pierson described Jaelyn and Lenora as the “kindest and sweetest kids.” It said their devotion to God and family had left a lasting mark on the people who knew them.

The fundraiser asked supporters to give Lindsey and her relatives privacy during the difficult days and weeks ahead. It explained that the family would contact people when they felt ready.
According to the description, Lindsey planned to pause her small business while grieving. Donations were designated for funeral expenses, her mortgage, utilities, and ordinary living costs during that break.
At the time of publication, contributors had given $27,943 toward a $50,000 goal. The campaign also included passages from Psalms and Revelation for supporters who share the family’s Christian faith. Among them was Psalm 34:18, which offers comfort to people with broken hearts.
The Investigation Still Holds Crucial Answers
The initial report confirmed the identities of all three people on August 3 but offered no additional explanation for their deaths. Until investigators release more evidence, the cause, sequence, and responsibility remain officially unanswered.
The public record nevertheless shows that concerns involving Jeffrey’s firearms and health had reached the divorce case shortly before July 31. Lindsey’s own account goes further, alleging that the girls had told multiple people they did not feel safe over a period of two years.
Her grief now carries two demands that must exist together. She wants the laws changed so children are heard, and she wants threats against the individuals who worked within those laws to end.

For the people who loved Jaelyn and Lenora, the sisters cannot be reduced to the unanswered questions surrounding the house on Division Street. They were daughters their mother arranged her entire life around.
